Bird Habitats of Southeastern Arizona

With the exception of such generalists as Common Raven, birds typically require specialized habitats. These are areas where topography combines with temperature and rainfall to create a distinctive plant community. For the birder, knowledge of a species’ habitat preferences is the key to finding that bird. In Birds of Southeastern Arizona there are 10 habitats which vary based on elevation:
* Streams And Rivers; Ponds And Lakes: 1,000-4,500’
* Desertscrub: 1,000-4,500’
* Valley Grassland; Agricultural Fields: 1,500-4,500’
* Valley Groves, Pecan Farms, And Desert Oases: 1,500-4,500’
* Foothill Groves: 2,500-5,000’
* Foothill Thornscrub: 3,500-5,000’
* Mountain Interior Chaparral And Pinyon-Juniper Woodland: 5,000-7,000’
* Mountain Pine-Oak Woodland: 5,000-7,000’
* Mountain Canyon Groves: 5,000-6,500’
* Mountain Coniferous Forest: 7,000-10,000’ |
